Two TMPD officers injured in Danville accident

One of the officers sustained severe injuries, while a civilian was uninjured in the incident.

Two people, reportedly Tshwane metro police (TMPD) officers, were injured in a motor vehicle accident in Danville on Thursday morning.

Paramedic service SVTA/Lifemed spokesperson Dean Slater said the accident was on the corner of Church and Transoranje streets on March 30 around 01:30.

Details are scant at this stage, but one officer sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital after advanced life support interventions while the second suffered moderate injuries.

Slater said that when medics arrived on the scene, “several persons were lying on the pavement”.

He said a marked TMPD vehicle and another seemed to have been involved.

He said the TMPD vehicle had rolled off the road, but the driver of the second vehicle was uninjured.

He said the police were investigating.

“Information we have at this stage is that the driver of the other vehicle failed to stop at the intersection when the traffic light was red and collided with our vehicle,” said TMPD spokesperson Isaac Mahamba.

“Both vehicles were damaged and both our officers who were in the vehicle sustained injuries and were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment.”

He said that an officer was discharged this morning and was recovering at home and the other one was still in the hospital.

“As the department, we wish our officers well and we have activated our employee wellness department to assist them where necessary.”
