Foundation aims to reach 100 communities with their programme

Their dream is to partner with communities for children to 'Eat, Learn and Play' in an environment that is safe and clean for their development.

A foundation is hoping, through their partnership with PEN, to reach about 100 communities with their “Eat, Learn and Play” programme which will benefit over 10 000 children in the next five years.

Privilege Foundation CEO John Mathuhle told Rekord that their dream is to partner with communities for children to “Eat, Learn and Play” in an environment that is safe and clean for their development.

The Privilege Foundation has partnered with the PEN organisation to provide a transforming opportunity for many communities in and outside Pretoria.

Their aim is not to reinvent the wheel but through collaboration and partnerships they believe that they can reach far in transforming communities in South Africa and beyond.

“Children are at the core of our business and we have three strategic projects we seek to achieve our vision:

– School of Excellence: partnering with ECD centres in vulnerable communities to provide adequate support through our ECD Support Centre model.

– Make Over My Town Programme: focusing on mobilising and activating communities to take pride in their own communities and their environment by revitalising their towns through cleaning, repairing, painting and planting. Led by COO Barend Lagrange.

– “I will not eat alone” movement: to revive ubuntu where communities and individuals are encouraged to fight hunger among children and vulnerable adults by creatively sharing and distributing food.

They are currently working with over 50 communities across the country, where they are seeking to implement their vision.

“As an NPO, your challenge is always access to funding opportunities, though we strongly believe in asset-based community development.

“However, we still need some sort of funding to be able to sponsor our vision with sufficient resources and a competent team,” Mathuhle said.

For over 30 years PEN has been working with children in vulnerable communities around Pretoria in developing tested systems and models that can work everywhere in the community.

Privilege Foundation is a registered NPO which was founded in 2018 by Ferdi Engelbrecht.
