School holiday programme for Mams learners

A local organisation continues to keep Mamelodi school learners busy and off the streets during the school holidays.
Thandanani Drop Inn Centre have teamed up with local stakeholders with their ongoing school holiday programme which started on March 27 and is expected to end on April 11.
Kate Kekana of Thandanani Drop Inn said the programme aims to keep children busy during the school holidays.
She said they have lined up several activities to keep the children busy every day from 10:00 to 16:00.
“We have a sports day, arts, singing and fun day. Plus, this year we are also hosting our first-ever Mr and Miss Thandanani Drop Inn during the school holiday programme,” said Kekana.
She said after registrations in the morning, they give all the children their breakfast and also make sure they have a freshly cooked meal before going back to their loved ones.
The centre has a regular afternoon school programme, but the numbers have increased with parents bringing their children during the school holidays while they are at work.
“The programme is aimed at looking after the children and feeding them for free while their parents are still at work.”
Parents are also expected to sign children in on a registration form in the morning and out when they fetch them in the afternoon.
The children are fed and kept busy the whole day with games, game boards, swimming and playing.
To ensure the safety of children at all times, the Mamelodi East CPF will be on board to monitor the situation.
Impilo 0720 sports centre of excellence also came on board to give the boys and girls tennis lessons.
Kekana added that caregivers from Thandanani and unemployed parents will be looking after the children.
There will be trips for children to visit heritage sites, museums and the botanical gardens.
