Laudium ward councillor gives back, encourages residents to do the same

“This gives us hope for the future that our community will be taken care of by future generations.”

Ward 61 councillor Naeem Patel celebrated his birthday over the weekend by providing elderly Laudium citizens with blankets as well as a hot meal in the guise of some soup and bread.

“This gives us hope for the future that our community will be taken care of by future generations,” Patel said of his annual blanket drive on April 1.

“I thank every organisation and individual doing positive work in our community today.

“Such a gesture is priceless, especially to see the smiles on the faces of the elderly beneficiaries.”

According to Patel, he organised the event with the help of various organisations that want to bring changes in their respective communities.

This year, organisations such as the Laudium community forum and the ward 61 residents association were also on board.

“The money for this drive is spent mostly in ward 61. Yesterday saw the drive kicking off in The Hills & Itireleng. Several elderly people were given blankets.”

During the day, the councillor and his team visited the Gerhardsville area where they provided about 350 residents with a cooked meal together with a loaf of bread and a hamper.

Many residents expressed their joy and satisfaction over the councillor’s good work in the community.

One such resident, Daya Chett, applauded the councillor for his great initiative, saying that he displayed “the character of a great humanitarian”.

“This is humanitarian work at its best. Our councillor focused on service delivery. Great job, councillor Naeem Patel and your team,” Chett said.
