Man shot dead in Boschkop

“The murdered man was only wearing one shoe and by the trail of blood it looked like he was dragged out of his car and dumped in the veld."

An elderly man has been found dead a few metres from his vehicle in Boschkop.

Ward 100 community leader Tonia Chabalala said CPF members on patrol in the area saw a white Toyota Hilux on the side of the road on Saturday.

“They went to investigate only to find the car with no occupants. The confused patrollers then thought maybe the owner was visiting somewhere,” said Chabalala.

Chabalala said on Sunday morning the community discovered the lifeless body.

He said the man had been shot dead.

“The body was found by passersby around 09:00 and the police were called.

The murdered man was only wearing one shoe and, by the trail of blood it looked like he was dragged out of his car and dumped in the veld.

Police investigators found blood on the passenger seat of the bakkie.”

Chabalala said criminals were targeting the area.

The bakkie parked next to the road.

“The criminals are taking advantage of the police station being far so they do whatever they want here.

“This is not the first incident a person was shot and disposed of here.

“We urge the community to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity on the community WhatsApp and CPF groups.”

The Boschkop police spokesperson Sergeant Yeroboam Mbatsane said the man was shot in the upper body.

“We were informed by the community about a lifeless body, then we quickly responded to the scene.”

Mbatsane said an investigation was launched.

“We are investigating a case of murder and so far the motive behind this killing is unknown, we don’t know if this was a hijacking or assassination.”
