Sosh police, stakeholders embark on school safety campaign

The event was triggered by the recent display of unruly behaviour by local learners, say Sosh police.

Standing by your values, respecting others and maintaining healthy boundaries are signs that one respects themselves.

These were the words of Constable Nhlanhla Zondi of the Soshanguve police station to Baleseng junior secondary school learners in Block L during a school safety campaign at the weekend.

“On the day, we addressed issues that were affecting young kids ranging from drug and alcohol abuse, gender-based violence, gambling and also warning them about partaking in criminal activities.”

He said the event was triggered by the recent display of unruly behaviour by local learners.

“The campaign was instigated by the recent unruly conduct by learners; hence, we saw a need to address the behaviour and encourage them to value education and maintain respect both in the schooling environment and at home,” said Zondi.

According to the police, the event was attended by more than 250 grade 8 and 9 learners.

Zondi further said as part of the police programme, they will continue imparting the information to kids as much as they can to deal with bullying and recruitment of young kids into criminal activities.
