Police arrest 55 illegal immigrants, recover three stolen vehicles in Pta

Gauteng police arrested more than 55 people in the Cullinan leg of Operation O Kae Molao on Thursday, May 11.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said province-wide, 897 suspects who will appear in various courts on Monday.

Masondo said that 55 undocumented persons were arrested.

“Two people were arrested for possession of drugs, one for dealing in drugs, and in Pretoria CBD, police arrested a suspect for possession of illicit cigarettes worth more than a million. These cigarettes are flooding our shops because shopkeepers want to avoid paying tax.

“We have closed three unlicensed shebeens and alcohol was seized,” said Masondo.

At least one person was arrested for possession of an unlicensed gun and more than three cars were identified stolen.

Masondo said this operation focused on areas that residents had complained that police neglected “because the provincial operations does not often happen there”.

“Today we came to show the community members that we do care and to send a very strong message to the criminals to never think that they are having it all.

“It was a surprise operation and that is why we did extremely well,” said Masondo.

Masondo said that crime prevention wardens should not be given any money by the community for doing their job as they are paid enough money by the premier.

He said home affairs was part of the operation.
