Teen fashion designer aims high
Tshiamo Mawela describes herself as a young entrepreneur who wants to see her business growing and one day owning her boutique.
A Mamelodi fashion designer is already making waves with her crochet clothing line.
Tshiamo Mawela (16) is the founder of Crocheteryhub, a clothing line that includes swimwear shirts, Bralette tops and tank tops.
Speaking to the young girl from Mamelodi East extension 5, she described herself as a young entrepreneur who wants to see her business grow and that she would one day have her own boutique.
She said she was inspired by her mother who loved to crochet clothing and she taught herself to work crochet needles at the age of 11.
Tshiamo said it took her almost a year to master the art of working with crochet needles.
The Grade 11 learner from Clapham high school said friends also inspired her to work hard as they liked her designs and started placing orders.
Tshiamo said she aims to always deliver on time and at a reasonable price.
She said her secret is simple focus and always thriving to deliver the best.
She is a teen of many talents when it comes to fashion design: she once made two traditional clothing dresses for her sister and herself to wear at a traditional wedding including a traditional shirt for her brother.
Fashion design is natural to her and she did not go to school to acquire the skills she possesses.
At the moment she is selling most of her designs to her friends, at school and community members.
She dreams of being one of SA’s most successful businesswomen in the fashion world.
His father, Oupa Mawela said he was proud of his daughter, adding the money she earns goes toward transport money to school.
“This not an easy job, but if you do something with passion and dedication you will see good results because you have put a lot of effort and time into it,” he said.
Anyone who wishes to buy or place an order can contact Tshiamo by following her on Instagram: @Crocheteryhub.
