Lenchen/Old Jhb robot adjusted
“The road is new. It is expected to have some teething problems. The more the road is utilised, the better the traffic flow will be defined.”

Motorists in Centurion will have a slightly easier time on the roads as of Friday, May 12.
The traffic lights at the intersection of Lenchen Avenue and Old Johannesburg Road have been adjusted following complaints that the traffic signal was too brief.
Ward 69 councillor Cindy Billson said that the adjustments were recommended following a March 2023 study of the intersection.
She said that motorists had complained to her about the intersection, which they said stayed green for less than five seconds.
This only allowed about two vehicles to cross the intersection before the lights switched to amber, with a cyclist noting that they could not even make it halfway before the lights turned amber.
According to Billson, the issue was previously reported, but nothing had been changed, with motorists still complaining of traffic congestion at the intersection.
On Monday, May 15, Billson confirmed that the intersection had been adjusted.
She urged residents to report any complaints to customercare@tshwane.gov.za as the road was new and still needed to sort out any problems that might arise.
“The road is new. It is expected to have some teething problems. The more the road is utilised, the better the traffic flow will be defined.”
She thanked the roads and transport team that listened to the complaints of the residents and implemented the changes.
According to a statement posted on Facebook, the City’s traffic engineering consultant, Chris Strydom confirmed that additional signal heads and timing plans had been implemented by contractors on Friday.
“I will monitor the intersection this week and if necessary make some changes to fine-tune the settings,” Strydom said in the statement.
