Accident claims learner’s life in the north
Emergency services took the victims to George Mukhari hospital for treatment.
One learner has died and two are in hospital following an accident in the north of Pretoria on Wednesday.
Police said the accident happened on the R566 road, near Nkwe Estate on Wednesday morning, May 24.
It involved five cars including scholar transport and police are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving that was registered.
Akasia police spokesperson Lindiwe Mabasa said when police arrived on the scene, emergency services had already taken the victims to George Mukhari hospital for treatment.
“Among the victims were the operators of the vehicles and school children but their ages are unknown at this stage.
“Police rushed to the hospital as part of the preliminary investigation to identify the victims and were allegedly informed that one victim, a school child had already succumbed to their injuries,” said Mabasa.
She told Rekord that emergency services consider saving lives ahead of the investigation that was why they took the victims to hospital ahead of the police arriving.
“The health workers were attending to the victims medically.”
Mabasa said the investigators are hard at work and had prioritised counselling to the families of the affected.
“A further charge of culpable homicide will be added upon further investigation and may the souls of the departed rest in peace,” Mabasa concluded.
