Akasia police train newly appointed crime prevention wardens

Akasia police have initiated a workplace training to 61 crime prevention wardens deployed in the area.

“This workshop was to lend a helping hand to the wardens with basic police principles.

“Which includes statement taking and other registers that are found in the policing field,” said Akasia police spokesperson Constable Lindiwe Mabasa.

Mabasa said it is important for police to forge a relationship with the wardens.

“It is imperative that we teach policing basics to the wardens since they will be working hand in glove with police.

“They will be helping us in decreasing crime and arresting suspects in the Akasia policing precinct, that is why it important to do workshop training,” Mabasa said.

Part of the workshop was also to educate the wardens on how to deal with situations and their areas of duty within the precinct.

“Their powers extend to arresting without a warrant, obtaining a name and address, executing warrants and may appear in court as witnesses.

“We educated them on their jurisdiction, procedure to follow when dealing with situations,” Mabasa said.

Akasia police station commander said the workshop was efficient to ensure the readiness of the wardens to hit the ground running.

The workshop, according to the station commander was effective in ensuring that the wardens were prepared to get started right away.

“I believe this training was efficient in incorporating the theoretical learning process they have received at the training academy,” said Akasia station commander Colonel Godfrey Zwane.
