Help north animal shelter raise funds for vaccination drive
The shelter is currently running a vaccination fundraiser by selling tickets.
Residents can help the Animal Ambulance shelter by sponsoring the vaccination either for a cat, dog, chicken or any other animal in its care.
“The purpose of the vet sponsorship is to get the animals vaccinated, dewormed and tick/flea treated to prevent outbreaks at the shelter,” said Animal Ambulance manager Katia Van Dyk.
The shelter, which is based in Murray Hill in the north of Pretoria, is home to about 300 abused and neglected animals.

The vaccination drive will be held in September.
Deworming, however, needs to be done every three months and tick/flea treatment is monthly.
Van Dyk said the vaccination drive was held annually.
“We faced a rabies scare at the beginning of 2023, which reminded us of the importance of vaccinating our animals.
“Thanks to our yearly vaccination drive, we were able to avoid euthanising the 250 animals in our care,” Van Dyk told Rekord.
Van Dyk said they asked for vaccination sponsorship of a furry friend for their September Vaccination Drive.
“We currently have five out of 150 dogs sponsored and two out of 100 farm animals sponsored,” she said.
“The farm animals need a double dose of vaccinations, so they each need two tickets sponsored for them.”
She said that the animals’ welfare depends largely on the funding.
“Once our vaccination fundraiser ends and we raised enough money, we contact our vets.
“We have two teams of vets – one for the dogs and cats, and the other for all the farm animals.
“They will come to the property to assist us with the vaccinations, deworming and tick/flea treatments.
“The vets also do general check-ups on all the animals to ensure their health is up to standard,” she continued.
She said people who want to help, can contact Katia on 083 241 4452.
“Sponsoring a vaccination ticket is an easy process, and we offer a complimentary set of coasters.
“We have a free delivery to show our appreciation to sponsors for their commitment to help keep the animals healthy.”
