NPO hosts successful dog care day in Soshanguve

“We supplied animal toys, deworming pills, leashes, collars, kennels, and blankets for the dogs and cats so they could stay warm this winter.”

The Dog Angel NPO, which promotes animal welfare, recently held a successful winter dog care day drive to help feed the animals in its care.

Dog Angel, a Soshanguve-based organisation, began as a dog feeding scheme in 2019 before becoming an NPO.

As they have been caring for animals, feeding and housing them, the NPO has been hailed as a beacon of hope.

“The purpose of this event was to provide winter necessities for the dogs in our community,” said Julia Hlangoana founder of Dog Angel.

“We supplied toys, deworming pills, leashes, collars, kennels, and blankets for the dogs and cats so they could stay warm this winter.”

Besides housing animals, Dog Angel does a lot of work in the community.

“Our daily job is to feed the animals house to house, make sure that their bowls and kennels are clean,” Hlangoana said.

“We wash the dogs and cats and it is all because of our love for animals.”

Hlangoana said besides financial issues, they are faced with transport challenges.

“One of our biggest challenges is the lack of a car.

“When a dog or cat is sick, we have to hire transport to take the animal to the vet.

“Also whenever we have to do a house-to-house feeding, our staff have to push a wheelbarrow and walk for many kilometres,” she told Rekord.

The organisation is planning to host the event twice monthly as they saw a great deal of neglected animals.
