Trucks collide in Centurion, resulting in gas leaks

One male patient was trapped in one of the trucks and “Jaws of Life” had to be used to extricate him.

The Tshwane emergency services responded to an accident involving two trucks, where several gas cylinders leaked on the N1 north/samrand offramp in Rooihuiskraal.

Spokesperson Charles Mabaso said the incident occured after 22:00 on Friday, June 2.

“Emergency Services arrived on scene to find trucks involved (in an accident) and a lot of gas cylinders lying around and some leaking.”

He said Tshwane firefighters closed the leaking cylinders and moved all the cylinders to the side of the road.

Mabaso said one male patient was trapped in one of the trucks.

“Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate him. He was later transported to hospital in a critical condition.”

He said one patient suffered minor injuries, but refused further medical care at a nearby hospital.

“The scene was handed over to law enforcement agencies.”

The cause of the accident is not yet known and will be subject to investigations
