Moot project transforms 13th Avenue bridge
Transformation of the 13th Avenue bridge in Gezina is in progress after scrubbing, prepping, painting the base coat and fixing walls over the last three weeks.
The Moot Project remains committed to cleaning and beautifying the Moot and more residents are joining the cause.
This week they focused on giving the 13th Avenue bridge a much-needed makeover.
Transformation of the 13th Avenue bridge in Gezina is in progress after scrubbing, prepping, painting the base coat and fixing walls over the last three weeks.
This was preceded by a few weeks of fundraising.
At last the project’s artist and workers were in full swing, busy transforming the bridge.
Project members said all the waves and hoots from passing vehicles were a huge blessing and motivation.
One of The Moot Project’s goals is to plant as much as possible and to make the Moot’s sidewalks beautiful.
They say they are very grateful to all those who have donated and offered plants for the project so far.
One of their representatives, Sandra, has a passion for it and plants every lovely plant that comes in.
Residents who want to donate aloe vera, figs or bacon trees, can drop them off at Tuinhoekie, the Moot Project said in a Facebook post.
The team also renovated two power boxes that had fallen into ruin.
The Moot Project aims to renew the entire Moot area over time.
“Rome, despite our best efforts, was not built in a day and progress in various parts of the Moot is solely attributable to residents’ enthusiasm and cooperation,” its Facebook post reads.
The team explained that the sooner residents jump in, the faster the Moot Project can assist them in uplifting their specific area.
WITH SPECIFIC REFERENCE TO THE WESTERN PART OF THE MOOT, THE FOLLOWING PROJECTS ARE IN PROGRESS:
– The cleaning, rehabilitation and painting of the bridge on 13th Avenue in Gezina.
– Temporary workers from the Moot Project are going to work with Liezel Assman (area representative of Mayville) for six days, from June 19-21 and then June 26-28 in Mayville to clean and lift Mayville, as in other areas.
– The team is negotiating with the metro to clean the Apies River’s low water bridge area together with the Tshwelopele team.
– They are negotiating to join hands with Sam Moimane and Marchell le Roux from Tshimologo Care Centre of Capital Park to serve that area with advice about cleaning up.
– The project’s area representatives in Capital Park and Mountain View have been working on various projects in their areas for a large part of the year.
