Uncle behind bars for allegedly raping nephew’s girlfriend

Leader of The Transformation Alliance (TTA) Abel Tau welcomes the arrest of rape suspect.

He allegedly forcefully took his nephew’s girlfriend from his nephew’s room to another room and raped her.

The police have confirmed that they arrested a 43-year-old man for allegedly raping his nephew’s girlfriend inside a room in Soshanguve.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the incident to Rekord on Thursday.

This comes after the leader of The Transformation Alliance (TTA) Abel Tau expressed gratitude to them for a job well done.

“It is reported by the victim (23) that she was at her boyfriend’s place sleeping when her ex-boyfriend, who is the uncle of the current boyfriend, entered the room and forcefully took her to another room where she was raped,” Nevhuhulwi said.

Nevhuhulwi added the incident happened on Sunday.

She said the police have since arrested the suspect, and he was due to appear before court on Thursday.

TAU WELCOMED THE ARREST OF A SUSPECT

“TTA is relieved, albeit cautiously, that the alleged perpetrator who beat and raped a Soshanguve woman has been apprehended by the police,” Tau said.

According to him, the suspect was arrested on Tuesday.

He said the arrest happened just a day after a young woman had suffered the ordeal.

Tau, who is also the former Tshwane Metro MMC for Human Settlements, cited that “the incident took place approximately a kilometre away from where a 17-year-old girl of the same area was raped and brutally murdered just over a week earlier.”

The rape and murder victim, Palesa Malatji, was laid to rest last weekend.
Tau also claimed that the arrest of a man occurred after a policeman allegedly attempted to financially induce the victim into withdrawing the charges.

Tau wants the matter regarding a policeman who allegedly attempted to defeat the ends of justice to be taken seriously.

He added that it was also surprising that a woman, who is believed to be the girlfriend of the perpetrator, opted to defend a man over a fellow woman as she also allegedly attempted to convince the victim to withdraw the case.

“These are allegations, and we would like the police to investigate as well.”

He then applauded the victim for refusing these financial inducements, citing that this would provide the suspect an opportunity to prove his innocence in a court of law.
