Metro struggles to restore power after load-shedding
Councillor Naeem Patel confirmed there was indeed a power outage in parts of Laudium, Claudius and some parts of Olievenhoutbosch and had reported it to authorities.
Laudium and Claudius’ residents have been without electricity for about eight hours, Divashnee Governder said on Tuesday.
Governder said the outages started as load-shedding that never ended, despite it being reported to the metro.
“The issue of these power outages is a problem, we must wake up early and prepare our children for school.
“How do we do that without electricity? The metro has since been promising to capacitate their substation but to date, nothing has happened.”
Governder said residents were expected to pay rates and taxes yet the municipality failed to provide basic services to its residents.
Hansa Memood of Laudium, however, told Rekord that in his area, the electricity came back later in the evening.
“Immediately after load-shedding our power did not come back, but our councillor sent out a communication informing us as to why we were out of electricity,” Mehmood said.

These power outages also affected areas such as Nellmapius, Highlands, Garsfontein and Mooikloof.
In its communication issued on Monday, the municipality announced the scheduled maintenance of River substation on Tuesday.
“The City of Tshwane will on Tuesday carry out a procedural maintenance activity at the River substation at 10:00. The procedure, though minimal, is necessary,” metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said.
The metro further announced the following areas would be affected:
- Sunnyside
- Clydesdale
- Meintjies
- Loftus Versveld
- Arcadia
- Holiday Inn
- Rissik substations
