Sundowns fans donate new house to shack fire victims
The nine occupants of the shack were left with nothing but the clothes on their back as the fire burnt all their belongings.
A ward 72 family that suffered the devastating loss of a home during a shack fire has a new roof over its head thanks to Sundowns fans.
Mamelodi Sundowns Gauteng North men’s forum recently rebuilt a home for the family in Jeffsville (Sausville), west of Pretoria.
“The case was referred by the affected member on May 31 for possible assistance after they experienced a fire incident that destroyed their shack,” said chairperson Tshepo Mokwena.
“The family member stated that the cause of the fire was due to a burst electricity cable connecting to their shack. A moment after his brother came back from work whilst he was on night shift, they just saw smoke coming out of the shack and immediately knew the shack caught fire.”

The family had tried to put out the fire however its efforts could not contain the blaze and its three-room shack was destroyed.
The nine occupants of the shack were left with nothing but the clothes on their backs as the fire burnt all their belongings.
No one sustained physical injuries as a result of the fire.
After assessing the damage and taking a record of the needs of the family, the men’s forum recently completed its rebuild.

The forum along with various partners handed over the new home to the family on June 9.
“The family has expressed gratitude to everyone who extended a hand to assist them,” Mokwena stated.
Ward 72 councillor Abios Sebola and forum deputy chairperson Richard Mokhutswane, as well as deputy secretary Thabo Phatedi, were in attendance for the handover.

Secretary of Gauteng North Women’s Forum Basetana Ntsweng, along with neighbours of the Malatjie family, were also present.
The men’s forum built a brand-new three-room shack and plastered it inside and outside.
The new shack was painted yellow and green, Mamelodi Sundowns’ team colours.
