Tshwane metro celebrate Drug Awareness Week
“Engagements have been initiated to advocate for the training of health facilities’ staff.”
As part of celebrating Drug Awareness Week, the Tshwane municipality implemented a community-oriented substance use programme (Cosup) in partnership with the University of Pretoria.
“Currently, there are 16 service delivery sites across the city,” metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said.
Mashigo also said that the metro embarked on an awareness campaign with stakeholders targeting young people at South Downs College.
DRUGS A COMPLEX MATTER
He said drug abuse was a complex matter.
“Currently there are five service delivery sites housed in health facilities to ensure integration of services and referrals between both institutions easy.”
Engagements have been initiated to advocate for the training of health facilities staff.
The municipality built two modalities aimed at rehabilitation, namely traditional inpatient rehabilitation and community-based treatment.
“The drug and substance abuse response team works with civil society organisations in the community in its efforts to curb substance abuse.”
