Rooihuiskraal Historical Terrain animals get a check-up
Dr. Marelize Engelbrecht told Rekord the animals were in tip-top shape, especially after their check-ups.
The animals of Rooihuiskraal Historical Terrain recently received a visit from the vet ahead of the refurbishment of the facilities at the business.
Dr Marelize Engelbrecht told Rekord the animals were in tip-top shape, especially after their check-ups.
“We helped the horse with its teeth, but overall, the animals are in good condition and appear clean and taken care of,” said Engelbrecht from Zwartkop Animal Clinic.

The animals got their first treatment about three weeks ago when Dr Gerjan van der Veen treated goats and sheep for wireworm and coccidiosis.
Engelbrecht said that she is passionate about the work she does for animals in need and was happy to assist where she could.
She said it was important to keep tabs on animals such as rabbits, which can breed rapidly and require a specialised diet.
“For pet rabbits, it’s important to reduce reproductive tumours and uterine infections and also make rabbits more affectionate in some cases.”
The visit to Rooihuiskraal Historical Terrain also included a special dental appointment for Kweper, a 22-year-old Boerperd horse.
Filing the horse’s teeth, performed under sedation, was crucial to prevent discomfort while eating.
Following last weekend’s visit, Engelbrecht said that there was a visible improvement in the conditions and health of all the animals since the work began.
Ward councillor Cindy Billson, chairperson of the Council Committee of Social Development, Sports, Arts and Culture, said: “We appreciate your active involvement in your immediate community”.
Councillors Billson and Peter Sutton engaged in discussions with senior officials from the metro regarding the business model of Rooihuiskraal Historical Terrain.
This initiative is part of an ongoing investigation into improving its business model.
Billson said that the model would hopefully allow communities to have a direct impact on the management of the site.
“The first activity to engage in creating an inclusive model was to engage the local vets to assist as Corporate Social Responsibility in the medical care of animals,” said Billson.
“The City recently refurbished the old farm onsite and is currently making it available for conferences purposes.
“I love the history and legacy this site presents,” concluded Billson.
