Atteridgeville youth walk to honour fallen NPO member

The walk will start at 07:30 at the Mbolekwa sports complex in Atteridgeville this Saturday.

The Supreme Cadets Institute (SCI) invites residents to take part in their third annual Achiever’s Walk this Saturday, June 24.

The Atteridgeville-based youth-led NPO says that this year’s theme is “Be Good. Do Good”, to honour the late cadet, Tiego Moseneke.

Tiego passed away a few weeks ago. Founder of SCI, Koketso Moseneke said Tiego was a “principal sponsor and loyal supporter” of the NPO.

“Despite the sudden and tragic passing of Moseneke in April, the Achievers Walk will be held in his honour as we remember his great works and selfless contributions to his community,” Koketso said.

“He lived by this motto and inspired people to be their best selves, reminding them always to give back, help where they can and to keep leading and inspiring,” Koketso continued.

The walk will start at 07:30 at the Mbolekwa sports complex in Atteridgeville. Attendees are required to wear their academic regalia/professional uniform and comfortable shoes. Last year on June 18 the group walked 3km.

Several prominent South Africans are said to be joining the walk in their academic garb and residents are also called to donate towards the NPO’s fight against poverty.

“This, together with his many extraordinary works will be Tiego’s legacy. He was also an extremely generous man and SCI calls on South Africans to emulate that generosity of spirit and to donate books, stationery, school shoes and sanitary towels as we fight to eradicate period poverty,” Koketso said.

Koketso said that the purpose of the walk is to make education fashionable within the community and inspire the youth to take their studies seriously and pursue them till completion.

SCI regularly recruits post-matriculants and unemployed graduates as rangers and ranger assistants.

Cadets are provided with vocational training which includes the mentoring and support of primary and high-school students.

This support includes economic, social, and academic support.
