Deputy emergency services chief’s home destroyed in fire
“We got there only eight minutes after we received the first call, but we still couldn’t save the house.”

The Doornpoort home of the deputy chief responsible for the Tshwane emergency services department’s training academy was destroyed in a fire on Monday at around 17:15.
“The fire was too extreme for our team members to contain,” said Sinoville Fire Brigade Association spokesperson Johanne Botha.
“In my entire 15 years of fire experience, I have never seen anything like it. We got there only eight minutes after we received the first call, but we still couldn’t save the house.”
Luckily, the family managed to get out of the house unscathed.
The house was the second one to catch fire in the area in the past month.
“Three weeks ago, we attended a call when two houses caught fire due to their thatch roofing,” said Botha.
Tshwane emergency spokesperson Charles Mabaso confirmed the incident.
He said the department also received a call at around 17:26 on the day.
“Multiple firefighting resources were immediately dispatched, but the house was already engulfed by fire. Most of the roof had already collapsed.”
Mabaso said nearly all of the house’s contents were destroyed by the blaze.
“Only a few items in one of the bedrooms could be salvaged.”
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
