No new measles case reported in Tshwane
“The department conducted family visits and families were vaccinated, and if the child is in school they were vaccinated at schools.”

Tshwane has reported 20 people in total who have contracted measles since January.
This was revealed by Gauteng health spokesperson Motalatale Modiba on Monday.
Modiba however, said as of July 22 the city had recorded no new cases.
He said his department was conducting a door-to-door campaign in a bid to inform residents about measures to prevent contracting measles.
“In addition, the department conducted family visits and families were vaccinated, and if the child is in school they were vaccinated at school,” Modiba said.
According to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, all cases that were detected in Gauteng were from the metro.
The agency said in week 26 to July 1, the province reported four cases.
“A total of 184 laboratory-confirmed measles cases have been reported from epidemiological week 40, 2022 to week 26, 2023 in Gauteng.
“The majority of cases, 110, have been reported from the City of Ekurhuleni, 42 from the City of Tshwane, 21 from the City of Johannesburg and 11 from West Rand, while the last measles case in West Rand was reported in week 18,” the agency said in a report.
The agency further said there were no measles cases reported from Sedibeng since the outbreak.
It further said there should be strengthened surveillance for measles cases to not miss sporadic cases in the areas where measles cases were not reported.
“Prevention and control of measles outbreaks can only be achieved through vaccination. The national measles vaccination coverage remains low in the population at risk.”
Meanwhile, the metro’s health department said it is constantly monitoring the situation in the city.
Earlier this year a five-year-old girl from New Eersterus and a nine-year-old boy from Olievenhoutbosch were confirmed to have contracted measles.
