Police arrest ‘hijackers’ after Daspoort high speed chase
Suspects arrested are believed to be in connection with cases in the west, central and north of Pretoria.

Two suspects were recently arrested after a car chase came to an end with a crash into an embankment near the Daspoort Tunnel, west of Pretoria.
The suspects had reportedly hijacked a VW Tiguan in Pretoria West with two passengers inside and are believed to be linked to multiple hijackings within the metro.
Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the bust and say that an unlicensed firearm and ammunition were seized during the arrest.
“In the past few weeks, a spree of hijackings, kidnappings and armed robberies occurred in Pretoria. The group of suspects were targeting innocent victims by, hijacking and kidnapping them with firearms,” the joint agencies said via a statement.
The agencies involved in the effort included Hawks, SAPS crime intelligence, Tracker Connect, FRS-Falcon risk solutions and Bad Boyz security.
After information about the incident was reported, law enforcement spotted the vehicle travelling towards the Daspoort Tunnel in Hercules.
The suspects sped away when the team put on the blue lights to get the vehicle to stop. A chase ensued until the vehicle crashed into the embankment.
“Three suspects exited the vehicle and began running in different directions. The team arrested two. The victims, a man and a woman were found in the vehicle,” the statement continued.
The victims had been robbed of their personal belongings and were being kept hostage but though very traumatised, were unharmed.
A white Mercedes Benz A220 reported stolen in Sunnyside that has been used in the robbery, was seized.
False registration plates and multiple cellphones were also seized.
“Further investigation is underway as the suspects are linked to many other cases. The suspects and vehicle are also linked to a hijacking and kidnapping on July 14 in Akasia where a Land Rover was hijacked at a Sasol garage,” the statement concluded.
Residents with any information on these cases are urged to contact their local authorities.
