Motorists warned of road closure for Wednesday protest

Police would be deployed in affected areas, says the TMPD.

Various streets in Pretoria will be closed due to protest action by the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) on Wednesday.

Tshwane metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba confirmed that some roads would be closed due to the union strike.

Mahamba said marchers would gather at the old Putco depot, which is on the corner of Es’kia Mphahlele Drive and Struben Street at 09:00.

He said marchers would move from Struben into Sophie De Bruyn and then Madiba Street en route to the municipal office.

Mahamba urged motorists to avoid the following routes:

– Johannes Ramokgoase Street

– Kgosi Mampuru Street

– Bosman Street

– Paul Kruger Street

– Thabo Sehume Street

– Lillian Ngoyi Street

– Madiba Street

– Struben Street

– Sophie De Bruyn Street

The police spokesperson, however, said motorists can use the alternatives such as:

– Nana Sita Street

– WF Nkomo Street

– Boom Street

– Francis Baard Street

– Sisulu Street

– Nelson Mandela Drive

According to Mahamba, the protestors are expected to disperse around 14:00.

He assured residents that members of the metro police would be deployed to monitor the march and all affected streets.
