Orphan plans on taking his singing talents to the world

Auditions in Britain will start on October 26.

An invite to see the America’s Got Talent auditions live has inspired 20-year-old Thabang Malan to take a leap of faith by sending his audition tapes to international competitions.

He received an invite to the live audition for Britain’s Got Talent, set to commence at the end of October.

While his dream is to become a social worker and help children, Malan has used his talents in the meantime to entertain them at school and also share his story.

As an orphan, Malan was moved between various children’s homes and sought comfort in writing songs about his life in the hopes that one day he would be able to share them with the world.

“Throughout my life, I have tried to excel at everything that I do to prove people wrong and show the people around me that we are not defined by our backgrounds.”

In line with following his international dream, Malan has also been enthused by receiving confirmation of receipt for the tape he sent to America’s Got Talent.

“We already raised enough funds for America’s Got Talent if I am selected but we are still trying to raise funding for my trip to London as I will be required to go a week before the live auditions.”

After coming of age and not being eligible to stay at the children’s home, Malan moved into the Life Changing Projects homeless shelter and described the change into adulthood as an adjustment.

“At the children’s home, we were fed and given everything we needed and when I left I realised that I was on my own.

“The shelter does not only provide your basic needs but also encourages you to become independent and equips you with the basics to survive.”

He added that he has also received a lot of support from the organisation as he pursues his music career and it tries to get him into university.
