Health facilities in Tshwane retain ideal clinic status
Having good infrastructure, adequate staff, medicine and supplies, and strong administrative processes are all crucial elements in retaining a platinum status for healthcare services.
The Tshwane health department has retained its platinum ideal clinic status for all of its primary healthcare facilities, following a recent peer review assessment.
“This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff and management, who work tirelessly to provide high-quality, patient-centred care,” said health MMC Rina Marx.
Marx said all 24 of the primary healthcare clinics managed by the Tshwane health department have retained their platinum ideal clinic status.
She added that the peer review team consisted of various role players, including Gauteng Health, Tshwane and quality assurance.
According to the National Department of Health guidelines, the purpose of a health facility is to promote health and prevent illness and further complications through early detection, treatment and appropriate referral.
To achieve this, a clinic should function optimally, thus requiring a combination of elements to be present to render it an ideal clinic.
Marx said an ideal clinic must have the following:
– good infrastructure and adequate staff
– adequate medicine and supplies
– good administrative processes and sufficient bulk supplies
– applicable clinical policies, protocols and guidelines,
– partner and stakeholder support, to ensure the provision of quality health services to the community.
She urged community members to visit city clinics that offer a comprehensive package of primary healthcare services.
Clinics managed by Tshwane, are:
– Stanza Bopape II
– Karenpark
– Rosslyn
– Doornpoort
– Atteridgeville
– Danville
– FF Ribeiro

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all clinic staff, support and maintenance services for their continued dedication and efforts that enabled the city to retain its ideal clinic status,” she concluded.
