Tshwane metro officer in dock for murder

The officer, who has appeared in court on two previous occasions, will return at the end of the month.

A Tshwane metro police officer accused of murder has been remanded in police custody until October 27 for a bail hearing.

Gauteng spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) Robbie Raburabu said the officer, Jacob Mothibe, is accused of stabbing his partner in the thigh on September 28.

His partner later succumbed to his injuries.

“Mothibe was arrested the same day and appeared in a Pretoria Central court on October 2.”

He said the case was postponed to October 6, and again to October 27, for further bail application.

TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba confirmed the accused was a metro police officer.

Mahamba said on the day Mothibe was not on duty.

“The information we have at this stage is that the official firearm was not used but we are still investigating this and can confirm the case of murder is being investigated.”

He added that the metro police will cooperate with all law enforcement throughout the investigation.

Mahamba said the metro police will announce to the public the necessary steps it might take internally but all in due course.
