A Re Yeng buses resume operations

After two months protracted strikes, the Tshwane bus services will hit the tarmac once more.

A Re Yeng bus commuters would be pleased to know their buses will start operating on Monday morning.

This was announced by the metro via social media.

“Kindly note that bus operations will resume on Monday, October 16.

“Please note that there will be limited operations and no off-peak services,” the post read.

The announcement comes after bus services were halted due to the two-and-a-half month-long strike by metro employees.

Late last month, Tshwane MMC for roads and transport, Katlego Mathebe promised residents that buses would resume this month.

Initially, buses were supposed to start operating on October 1, however, due to intimidation and threats to workers, could not.

At the time Mathebe said the metro would continue to take disciplinary actions against all illegal strikers to restore the bus operations.

Municipal employees have been protesting over a wage increase that may be going to court after the SA municipal workers union (Samwu) defended an application by the municipality to the SA local government bargaining council seeking an exemption to paying the increase.

Furthermore, the metro was given the green light to continue running the two transport revenue streams when the Labour Court in Braamfontein, Johannesburg called for the destruction and violence in the metro to cease.

Last Tuesday ActionSA chairperson in the province Funzi Ngobeni had a meeting with Samwu in a bid to resolve the ongoing strike action in Tshwane.

This was despite its coalition partner the DA’s insistence that it would not negotiate with the unions because of Tshwane’s dire financial situation.

The metro has listed routes that its buses will cover on Monday:

T1: Wonderboom – Menlyn

C2: Wonderboom – Gezina, Sunnyside

F4: Sunnyside – Muckleneuk – Groenkloof

F10: Church Square – Pretoria Station

F11: Loftus – Hatfield

The buses will operate from 06:00 to 09:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00.
