Tshwane could impose water restrictions
The metro promises to prioritise water leaks as part of preserving water.

Tshwane residents can expect water restrictions as consumption in the city increases.
Speaking on behalf of the metro Lindela Mashigo said the continued rise in water consumption would likely lead to dry taps.
“The city is imploring consumers to prioritise water conservation to safeguard supply. The strain on the city’s reservoirs and those that are managed by Rand Water is enormous,” added Mashigo.
He said this revelation calls for communities across the city’s seven regions to use water sparingly and attend to their household leaks.
“Residents have this week been experiencing a restricted supply of water, with many areas complaining of low pressure after the council implemented water control flow measures.
“This is despite Minister of Water and Sanitation Senzo Mchunu assuring South Africans on Sunday that the country is not on the verge of a water supply crisis.”
Mashigo acknowledged that the metro might not notice some of the leaks in time, which would lead to significant waste of water.
He encouraged residents to report any water leak or faulty infrastructure, including tampering with fire hydrants.
Mashigo appealed to residents to apply water conservation measures religiously as part of their lifestyle:
– Don’t water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.
– Don’t wash cars and don’t clean driveways or pavements using a hosepipe.
– Flush toilets only when necessary.
– Close a running tap while brushing your teeth.
– Reduce daily water usage as much as possible.
– Don’t fill swimming pools from the municipal water supply. Manually topping up swimming pools is allowed only if the swimming pool is fitted with a pool cover that prevents evaporation.
