Tshwane puts drunk drivers on notice
The bus is equipped with advanced testing equipment, enabling swift and accurate alcohol tests for motorists and can check for outstanding traffic fines.
Tshwane and its metro police (TMPD) have launched a high-tech alcohol-testing bus to remove drunk drivers off the road to improve road safety.
The mobile alcohol bus, launched on the R80 near Rosslyn will bring greater efficacy to detect drunk driving.
Tshwane MMC for community safety Grandi Theunissen said the bus is equipped with advanced testing equipment to enable swift and accurate alcohol testing.
He said the bus was launched during October in Transport Month as part of a larger campaign to improve road safety and reduce road fatalities.

“The initiative is a direct response to the alarming prevalence of drunk driving in our communities, which has devastating consequences for individuals and their families,” he said.
He added it will also be used to check outstanding traffic fines.
Theunissen said the bus will be used throughout Tshwane during road safety operations to deter and prevent individuals from putting themselves and others at risk by driving under the influence.
“Safety on our roads is a shared responsibility, and the success of this initiative depends on strong collaboration between law enforcement, local communities, businesses and civil society.”
Grandi warned that drunk drivers will be dealt with harshly.
“All drunk drivers in Tshwane… your days on our roads are numbered, as our alcohol bus is coming for all of you,” he warned.
He said swift detection of drunk driving will ensure successful prosecutions.
He pleaded with motorists not to drink and drive as well as encouraged residents to report drunk driving to the TMPD on 012 358 7095/7096 or tmpdcomplaints@tshwane.gov.za.
