Eskom is on high alert as Gauteng experiences heavy downpours with the possibility of flooding.
The power utility said the heavy rains may result in delays in supply restoration.
As a result, the utility has urged residents to take immediate precautions to minimise the risk of network overloading and mitigate the impact of potential power outages.
The utility asked residents to switch off non-essential appliances to minimise overloading.

Tshwane emergency services (EMS) spokesperson Deputy Chief Charles Mabaso said the service is monitoring the development of severe thunderstorms following the level 2, yellow warning by the SA weather service (Saws).
Mabaso said the impact of the severe thunderstorms may include the following:
– Localised flooding of susceptible low-lying areas, informal settlements and roads.
– Minor to major vehicle accidents due to poor driving visibility and slippery roads.
– Localised service disruptions due to power failures.
– Localised damage due to large amounts of small hail.
Mabaso said currently there are no reports of flooding and infrastructure damage, but the service was keeping a close eye on the situation.
He warned residents and motorists to be cautious while travelling in known hotspots for flooding around Tshwane.

The following instructions have been issued by the Saws:
– If possible, stay indoors and away from metal objects.
– Do not seek shelter under trees or tall objects.
– Do not go fishing or play golf as both golf clubs and fishing rods are good conductors of electricity.
– Avoid low-lying roads and bridges.
– Be aware that any combination of hail, strong winds, heavy rain and/or excessive lighting can accompany storms.
Mabaso called on residents to be vigilant and immediately report any fire or rescue emergency on 107 toll-free or 012 358 6300/6400. For ambulance services, call 112 toll-free.
“Residents are also encouraged to monitor warnings and alerts issued by Saws and other government agencies, and to immediately follow recommended safety tips,” Mabaso said.
