Hefty sentence for Mams robber
The accused and his accomplice robbed bakery employees of their personal belongings while delivering bread at a spaza shop in Mamelodi.

The Pretoria magistrate’s court has sentenced Chillis Khudu Mosuothupo (33) of Lusaka in Mamelodi East to 15 years in prison each on two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances.
NPA regional spokesperson, Lumka Mahanjana said the magistrate ordered that the two sentences run concurrently and declared Mosuothupo unfit to possess a firearm.
She said on the morning of January 24, 2020, while delivering bread at a spaza shop in Mamelodi, the accused and his accomplice had robbed bakery employees of their personal belongings.
“After the robbery, the two accused ran, and a shooting, later joined by police, between the two and security guards ensued,” said Mahanjana.
Mosuothupo was injured in the leg and arrested while his accomplice later died due to his wounds.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges claiming mistaken identity.
However, the prosecutor Advocate Emile van der Merwe told the court that Mosuothupo was also linked to the offence by complainants who identified him through the identity parade.
Furthermore, in aggravation, Van der Merwe told the court that Mosuothupo committed serious crimes that impact companies and communities as such companies pay insurance and tracker fees to mitigate the risk.
Van der Merwe said communities live in fear and don’t feel safe, because of such crimes, therefore, she asked the court not to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence.
Magistrate Ntlati agreed, adding that Mosuothupo committed a serious crime and that the sentence given was appropriate.
Mahanjana said the NPA welcomed the sentence.
