Oppie Bol Foundation unites residents through sports
The foundation bridges the gap between able-bodied persons and disabled people through athletics.
Athletes from all walks of life descended on Pilditch Stadium in Pretoria West over the weekend to participate in a social cohesion project.
Founder and CEO of Oppie Bol, Cazle Hendricks said the aim of the race was to create a platform for social cohesion between persons with disabilities and able-bodied people.
He said the race was hosted in support of Disability Rights Awareness Month.

According to him, it attracted more than 80 participants, who came to support the initiative.
“This is an annual race on the road running calendar of Athletics Gauteng North (AGN).”
He said the event was organised by Oppie Bol Foundation, its development leg, Oppie Bol Athletics Club and their strategic partner, the city of Tshwane.
“The municipality is committed to growing this prestigious event on its annual calendar.”
This was echoed by MMC for community and social development Peggy de Bruin, who encouraged participants at the starting line to continue their support for programmes that promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities.

Hendricks said his organisation remained grateful to all the sponsors who had contributed to the success of the event.
“A special thanks to the organising team and the volunteers who put in many hours in preparation for this event,” he said.
Participant Charles Matthysen said it was a privilege to take part in such a great initiative that sought to make people one.
“It is important to have such campaigns to make our country a better one. We must make sure that people with disability don’t feel inferior,” said Matthysen.
