Applications now open for second phase of Marabastad Housing Project
Eligible applicants should earn between R11 301 and R22 000 per month.
The metro has announced that the second phase of the Marabastad Housing Project has officially opened for applications.
This comes after the recent announcement during an oversight visit by Tshwane MMC for human settlements Ofentse Madzebatela that Phase 1 was at 92% completion and Phase 2 at 84%.

Phase 1 entailed filling the R1 500 – R3 500 housing units with 1 232 tenants who now have easier access to employment, public transport, shopping malls and sports facilities.
Phase 2 consists of two-bedroom units for applicants with a gross household income of R11 301 – R22 000 per month.
Madzebatela addressed the metro’s previous attempt this year to open the second phase to the public, which didn’t pan out.
“In May this year, Housing Company Tshwane, the City’s social housing entity, opened the Phase 2 application process. However, we did not receive enough qualifying applicants and have now reopened the application process,” she said.
“Eligible applicants will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The units are for rental only and charges are calculated based on gross household income.”
The metro previously said it aimed to complete the project in the first quarter of 2024.
According to the metro, the 1 200-unit multimillion-rand mixed-use complex is the largest social housing development in South Africa.
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for placement in the project’s second phase:
– must be aged 18 or older
– must be employed and/or self-employed, and able to pay monthly rent
– must be South African residents with a gross household income of between R11 301 and R22 000
– Applicants must have clean credit records and not be under review.
Documents required for applications include;
– Certified ID copy
– Certified copy of partner’s ID, if applicable
– Certified copies of birth certificates or IDs of dependents (children) or an affidavit if the dependent is an extended family member, if applicable
– Proof of residence and proof of income
