Olievenhoutbosch and surrounds without water for more than 24 hours

Tshwane residents say they feel neglected by the municipality.

Residents of Olievenhoutbosch ext. 36, Rooihuiskraal and Mnandi have been without water for almost two days.

Jafta Mofokeng, a resident of Olievenhoutbosch told Rekord that they had been without water for more than 24 hours.

“Our issues are too many in our area – if it is not water it is electricity. On Tuesday, the councillor informed us that the leakage would be fixed but today [Wednesday] there’s still no drop of water,” Mofokeng said.

Jonas Moleko of Thatchfield Estate said they have been without water since Tuesday, adding that the last communication residents received was that the matter would be resolved by the end of the day.

“We are not getting any water tankers nor are we getting anything tangible as to when supply would be restored,” added Moleko.

Another resident Mannie Rossouw accused the municipality of failing its residents, saying the metro was in a shambles as it could not fix a mere leak on time.

“Private plumbers can solve this in two hours. A whole municipality’s plumbers failed to fix it in 20 hours,” a frustrated Rossouw said.

However, the metro media team promised residents that the leakage would be attended to and supply restored as soon as the pipe had been fixed.

The team said the reason why the work took so long was because the leak occurred on the main pipe that supplies Mnandi reservoir.

“It is anticipated that the repairs will take the whole day and supply is expected to be restored in the evening,” said the team.

Despite residents’ concerns, ward 64 councillor Henriette Frohlich said supply to Rooihuiskraal had been restored.

She, however, said there was no water in Erasmus Avenue and Raslouw.

“I just checked in with our water group, nothing has been reported except for the leaking reservoir in Raslouw that was reported this morning,” Frohlich added.
