Parts of Pretoria east, CBD to be without water next Wednesday

These are some of the suburbs that will be affected by the water supply interruption: Hatfield, Hillcrest, Brooklyn North of Murray Street, Menlo Park North of 5th Street, Arcadia, east of Eastwood Street, including Kirkness Street.

Residents in parts of the east and CBD must brace themselves for 12 hours of water supply interruption next week Wednesday, November 15.

The interruption is for planned upgrade work to a water supply network in Hillcrest, which is supplied by the Muckleneuk reservoir.

Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said this essential work is expected to last 12 hours from 08:00 until 20:00.

He said the city will try at all costs to avoid interruption, but if it occurs the following areas will be affected:

– Hatfield

– Hillcrest

– Brooklyn north of Murray Street

– Menlo Park north of 5th Street

– Arcadia, east of Eastwood Street, including Kirkness Street

He said the city apologised for the inconvenience that may be caused by the interruption.

Mashigo urged residents to make the following water-conservation measures part of their normal lifestyle:

– Do not water gardens with a hosepipe or sprinkler between 06:00 and 18:00.

– Do not wash a vehicle with a hosepipe.

– Do not fill the swimming pool.

Residents are further urged to continue using grey water to water gardens and flush toilets.

“Where possible, water-saving devices should be installed. Residents should report water leaks, burst pipes and all incidents where water is wasted,” he advised.

Residents are further urged to make water conservation, part of their everyday lives by making use of the following water-saving tips:

– Install a low-flow shower head and tap aerators where possible.

– Use a dual-flush toilet cistern.

– Plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden.

– Use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning the driveway or patio.

– Collect rainwater to use in the garden or wash the car.

– Cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.

– Take a short shower rather than a bath.

– Close a running tap while brushing teeth or shaving.

– Regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.

Mashigo encouraged residents to report the following water-related incidents:

– No water supply, burst water pipes, leaking meters or blocked street sewers: 012 358 9999 or 080 1111 556

– Illegal water connections: 012 358 9060

– Non-payment: 012 345 8514
