Two Mabopane learners accused of sexual misconduct get final warning
It is alleged the perpetrators forced their victim to the floor in the toilet, one choking him while the other touched his manhood.
Two Mabopane learners (11) accused of sexual misconduct have been slapped with a final written warning of expulsion.
According to Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Steve Mabona, the disciplinary processes were instituted against the two on Monday, November 20.
It is alleged that they sexually abused their classmate (10) in the school toilet.
They allegedly forced their victim to the ground, one standing behind him, while the other touched his private parts.
The incident is reported to have occurred on Wednesday, November 8.
The mother of the victim said she was called to the school on the day.
“Upon arrival, my son’s class teacher told me that he had been sexually assaulted. His friends saw the incident and reported it to the teacher,” she said.
The mother said she was informed this had happened before but the school had only found out on Wednesday.
The mother told Rekord that her son’s friends told their class teacher that the two perpetrators “are doing adult stuff to the victim”.
She said she had a meeting with the schoolmaster, teachers, perpetrators and their representatives on Friday, November 10.
“During the meeting, the perpetrators were asked where they learnt all this. One of them said he saw it from his sister who does the adult stuff in front of him.”
The mother added that she had noticed some unusual behaviour from her son lately but he wouldn’t open up to her.
“I took my son to open a case at Terminus police station in Mabopane but the police said the perpetrators are minors and there’s nothing they can do.”
She alleged that a police sergeant, his name known to Rekord, said the perpetrators knew nothing about sexual penetration judging by their age and dismissed her.
She said she took her son to Odi Hospital.
“The doctor spoke to my son and he opened up about the incident.”
She said he told the doctor the perpetrators took his pants down and one wanted to penetrate him without removing his underwear, while the other choked him and touched his manhood.
Mabona said the department was deeply concerned about the alleged sexual misconduct and views the incident in a very serious light.
He said the department’s social workers are counselling both perpetrators and the victim.
“The department strongly condemns any acts of misconduct and urges learners to refrain from such in schools.”
Mabona implored parents to assist the department in instilling learner discipline in and outside the school environment.
