Nehawu march expected in CBD today

The members are reportedly marching over various issues including unpaid overtime.

Central motorists are cautioned that union Nehawu will march later today in the CBD.

Members will gather at the union office at 421 Pretorius Street at 11:00, then march to the Department of Trade and Industry on 77 Meintjies Street in Sunnyside to protest over unpaid overtime, among others.

The metro police said the marchers would from their gathering point turn left on to Du Toit Street, then go onto Francis Baard Street, right into Meintjies Street en route to the department on the corner of Meintjies and Robert Sobukwe streets.

Motorists are advised to avoid the following streets:

– Francis Baard Street

– Du Toit Street

– Pretorius Street

– Nelson Mandela Drive

They are are advised to use following at alternative routes instead:

– Nana Sita Street

– Sisulu Street

– Steve Biko Street

– Hamilton Street

Metro police and SAPS will be deployed to monitor the march.

The marchers are expected to disperse by 14:00.
