Warning for hail and severe thunderstorms in Pretoria tonight

Pretoria residents are advised that a level 2 warning has been issued for hail and severe thunderstorms tonight

A level 2 warning has been issued for hail and severe thunderstorms tonight in Pretoria.

Residents can expect at least another two days of wet weather after the heatwave as the weather service expects scattered showers over parts of Gauteng.

The South African Weather Services (SAWS) has issued a yellow level two thunderstorms warning over all of Gauteng for today and tomorrow.

This means that a minor impact is highly likely. The severe storms are expected to cause gusty winds, large quantities of small hail, and a possibility of heavy downfall.

“We expect these conditions for tonight, and tomorrow, we expect that the storms will begin to move to areas such as Limpopo, KZN, and Mpumalanga,” said SAWS forecaster Molebohene Manthata.

Residents are also advised that the storms may lead to flooding in informal settlements and water pooling in low-lying areas such as bridges.

Motorists and residents are advised to adhere to the following safety tips;

– Don’t cross rivers/low-lying/bridge areas when it’s raining

– Make sure your car is parked under covered parking

– Be indoors when the gusty winds occur to avoid injury by flying debris
