COT welcomes R11 million investment on livestock faming

Allocated investment covers the construction of 15 cattle-handling facilities and benefits 15 livestock farmers, as well as enhance safety practices and create jobs.

Tshwane has welcomed an investment boost to Rust De Winter in Region 5.

Tshwane MMC for environment and agriculture management Ziyanda Zwane said her department obtained R11.1 million from the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development to support livestock farmers.

He said the investment would go into the construction of 15 cattle-handling facilities, creation of jobs and improving farm efficiency in the area.

He said her department developed the business plan and raised the funds.

He said the 15 farmers in ward 99, “two construction companies benefitted while 40 job opportunities were created during the construction phase”.

 

He said the project will ensure effective beef cattle-handling practices by improving the safety of the workers when dealing with animals, enhancing animal welfare and reducing animal stress.

To date, eight facilities have been built.

Zwane said the metro, in collaboration with key stakeholders in the agriculture sector, will continue to support farmers to ensure the growth and sustainability of the industry.
