NGOs seeking help during festive season

Giving your time to the needy gives one a longer lifespan.

Why not give the gift of your time this festive season?

It is statically proven that people who volunteer regularly are healthier both physically and mentally and that volunteering gives people a sense of purpose.

This is as various non-government organisations (NGOs) around the Capital City need a lot of assistance.

Here are some charities you can consider:

CEO of the South Africa Animal Cancer Association (SAACA) Munnik Marais said his organisation would love to have an extra pair of hands this festive season.

Marais said people who wanted to volunteer at their different shelters should contact him on 083 2688 701.

“We work with different shelters such as Soshanguve, Wet Nose Animal Rescue, Lori Par, and others.

“We try to allocate volunteers close to home and to find out what their interests are, such as dogs, cats, birds, wildlife, etcetera.”

SAACA was established as a need for animals with cancer.

According to Marais, the organisation’s aim is to bridge the gap for animals that have contracted cancer around the entire Southern Africa.

“Cancer has always been seen as a human illness, but little does everybody know that animals are also diagnosed and die of cancer. In one study, 45% of the dogs that reached 10 years of age or older died of cancer.”

Marais said the organisation’s partnership with the University of Pretoria’s faculty of veterinary science has been the most exciting thing, as they would be heading and conducting research on animals with cancer.

Basadi Ba Moshito Foundation co-founders Harmony Malope, Antoinette and Karabo Maluleke.

Meanwhile, Basadi Ba Moshito Foundation CEO Antoinette Maluleke said her organisation would welcome any kind of assistance.

Maluleke said they would need extra pairs of hands and perishables as the foundation is gearing up to hosting its annual Christmas lunch it normally holds with the less privileged every December 25.

“We ask that people help us make this Christmas extra special for the homeless community of Centurion, by donating non-perishable food items, personal care, and toys for the children,” said Maluleke.

Basadi Ba Moshito provides information and support services to vulnerable women, younger ladies, and girls from all walks of life.

According to the CEO, the foundation is also committed to empowering and developing women.
