Get to know all of Tshwane’s regions

Here is a breakdown of the various regions, townships and suburbs within the city of Tshwane.

We live in one of South Africa’s three capital cities. But do you know the geographical makeup of the city?

Tshwane/Pretoria is divided into seven regions comprising residential areas, educational institutions, municipal areas and industrial areas.

Below are the regions, suburbs and townships within the regions.

Region 1:
As per the city of Tshwane, region 1 is situated in the north-western part of the metropolitan area and comprises three main zones: a southern zone (Akasia, Rosslyn and Pretoria North), a northern zone (Klip-Kruisfontein, Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane, Winterveldt and Soshanguve) and the rural zone in the west.

Region 2:
Region 2 is located in the northern part of the city and includes Kudube, Hammanskraal, Stinkwater, Suurman and Babelegi.

This region is mostly dominated by the Montana area, consisting of Annlin, Sinoville, Doornpoort, Wonderboom and Hammanskraal.

The region is bordered by the Magaliesberg mountain range to the south and 10th Street in Babelegi to the north of Tshwane.

Region 3:
This region is bordered by the Magaliesberg mountain range to the north and the N4 freeway to the east, including a small part of East Lynne and Silverton.

The region includes the Pretoria CBD, the Brooklyn and Hatfield metropolitan nodes, as well as the western area of Tshwane (commonly known as Pretoria West).

To the south-west, the region borders on the jurisdiction of Mogale City and to the west is Madibeng in North West Province.

Region 4

Region 4 is situated in the south-western portion of the metropolitan area.

The region borders on the areas of jurisdiction of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, as well as Mogale City to the west.

This region incorporates Centurion and Irene in the east, Olievenhoutbosch in the south and the Rhens Nature Reserve in the west.

Region 5:

This consists of the following areas: Rayton, Cullinan, Refilwe, Sable Hills, Roodeplaat and Onverwacht.

The region comprises the bulk of the former Nokeng Tsa Taemane Local Municipality, including a small area from the former Kungwini area in the south.

It is bordered by the Magaliesberg mountain range, the N1 to the west and the N4 freeway to the south.

Region 6
It is bordered by the Magaliesberg mountain range to the north, the N1 freeway to the west and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality to the south.

The region includes large parts of the former Kungwini and Nokeng Tsa Taemane regions.

Areas that fall under Region 6 include Nellmapius, Mamelodi, Jan Niemand Park, Mahube Valley, Moreleta Park, Silver Lakes and Mooikloof.

Region 7:
This is the most eastern area of Tshwane and lies southeast of Region 5 and northeast of Region 6.

Mpumalanga borders it to the east and north, and Ekurhuleni to the south.
Region 7 consists of four wards: 102, 103, 104 and 105.

The region includes the following areas: Bronkhorstbaai, Bronkhorstspruit, Vleiland, Kungwini Country Estate, Schietpoort, Vaalbank, Vlakfontein, Zithobeni Heights, Ekangala B, C, D (Bawezi), Kungwini Jobarne/ Lunsriem/ Rietriem/ Witblits, Rethabiseng X1 and 2, Ekangala blocks A and F, block F X1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Bella Vista, Grootspruit, Heuningsnest, Kortfontein, Zorgvliet, Modderfontein, Oude Zwaanskraal, Rustfontein and Spitskop.
