Police hunt four linked to Lyttelton shooting
A violent altercation between Napier and Government Road left a man in his 30s critically injured.
Four suspects, who allegedly attacked and shot a man at a squatter camp in Lyttelton on August 29, are still at large.
Captain Johan van Dyk confirmed that the shooting, which is being investigated as a case of attempted murder, took place between Napier and Government roads around 19:00 last Friday.
According to Van Dyk, a witness claimed that he had approached the victim, along with his girlfriend, to ask him to close his shop because he was drunk and it was risky if the shop remained open.
“The victim got angry, and the witness apologised and walked away. Shortly after, the witness saw one man approaching the victim and hitting him with a pool stick, leading to a fight.
“Three more suspects joined in and began throwing beer bottles at the victim,” said Van Dyk.

The situation escalated when one of the suspects stabbed the man before two others allegedly shot him multiple times.
Van Dyk noted that the victim was shot in the face, arm, and stomach.
“The four suspects fled the scene. Police later recovered a knife and two cartridges.”
Emergency services transported the victim to Steve Biko Hospital.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT-SA) earlier confirmed in a Facebook post that its Centurion crew responded to the shooting.
“A man in his 30s sustained serious injuries after being shot multiple times.”
In the post, the organisation also reminded residents about the importance of knowing basic first aid when dealing with severe bleeding.
“Apply direct, firm pressure on the wound using a clean cloth or dressing. Always ensure you have at least protective gloves before helping to protect yourself from possible infection.
“Keep pressure until emergency services arrive and do not remove pressure once applied,” the organisation advised.
They encouraged community members to keep a small first aid kit nearby, adding that quick action can save a life in an emergency.
