Video footage highlights Centurion cellphone theft as police request help
Police are asking for community support in tracing suspects involved in several cellphone robberies, including a Rooihuiskraal North incident caught on security footage.
A series of cellphone robbery incidents in Pretoria has prompted police to ask for the public’s help to identify suspects.
Provincial police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said the first incident occurred on July 22 in Eco Park, Centurion, where suspects robbed a person of their cellphone at gunpoint.
“Another incident took place on March 31 in Claremont, Hercules, when suspects grabbed a victim’s cellphone and fled the scene,” she said.

In a separate incident, a cellphone snatching was captured on security footage on Lenchen Avenue in Rooihuiskraal North.
The video of the event has been circulating on social media since September 2.

The video shows a man wearing a T-shirt, on his phone, standing outside an estate.
The footage captures the man noticing another person leaving the estate gate while speaking on his phone.
The disguised suspect then approaches the victim, snatches the phone, and runs to a nearby grey Volkswagen Polo, where an accomplice is waiting. The car then quickly drives away.

Sibeko emphasised the crucial role the community can play in helping police track down the suspects.
She noted that anyone with information is urged to contact the investigating officer, Constable Ravele, on 082 419 9737.
Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the MySAPS app or by calling Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
