Stop illegal sale of stands in Stinkwater, metro urges residents
Those who are found to be guilty will be removed, and the properties will be reallocated to other eligible residents.
The Tshwane metro has condemned the illegal sale of residential stands in Stinkwater Ext 10, Hammanskraal.
This follows claims that some beneficiaries are selling their plots for between R1 800 and R10 000.
MMC for Housing and Human Settlements Aaron Maluleka voiced his concerns, stressing that the municipality would not tolerate the practice.
“We urge residents to refrain from selling their stands and use the right platforms to register their grievances,” he said.
The relocation project, which began on July 30, has already moved over 340 families from water-locked land in wards 13 and 95 in Six Bridge, Marikana Informal Settlement, to Stinkwater Ext 10 and Tambo 1.
Maluleka said 849 residents are expected to benefit from the relocation process.
According to Maluleka, the metro will conduct a full audit of all allocated stands to verify that they are still occupied by their rightful beneficiaries.
Those who are found to have sold or purchased stands illegally will be removed, and the properties will be reallocated to eligible residents.
“We cannot allow people to undermine this process. Those who are not interested in moving to the new stands are encouraged to sign indemnity forms confirming their refusal.
“Once they return to their old settlements, the city will not be held liable for any challenges that arise, including the lack of services,” cautioned Maluleka.
The metro has promised to provide rudimentary services, such as mobile toilets and water to relocated households, while work continues towards the formalisation of Stinkwater Ext 10.
Maluleka urged residents to exercise patience and avoid taking matters into their own hands.
“This relocation is about restoring dignity and ensuring people have access to proper services.
“We appeal to our residents to remain calm, co-operate with the process, and allow the metro to deliver,” he added.
