Zwartkop substation repairs will cause 7-hour outage in parts of Centurion
Repair work is expected to begin at 09:00 and be completed at 16:00.
The Tshwane metro has scheduled urgent repair work at the Zwartkop Substation on September 4, which will affect power supply to Centurion areas.
Metro spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo, confirmed the city’s technicians will carry out repairs on Thursday for seven hours between 09:00 and 16:00.
He said the technicians will be repairing an 11kV transformer cable end box to prevent further damage.
Mashigo explained that the substation is currently operating on only one transformer after fire damage earlier this year left its backup unit out of service.
“This work is critical to safeguard the existing infrastructure and ensure stability of supply. Unfortunately, the power supply will have to be interrupted while the repairs are carried out.”
The following areas will be directly affected by the outage:
– Club View
– Valhalla
– Voortrekkerhoogte
– 1 Military Hospital
– Zwartkop supply area
Mashigo cautioned that the Claudius and Zebra substations may experience a short dip in supply when the Zwartkop Substation is re-energised.
He urged residents to exercise caution during the outage.
“All electricity points must be treated as live at all times, even during the planned interruption,” he added.
