Eight-hour power cut on Tuesday for Centurion CBD

The metro has urged residents to take safety precautions during the planned interruption.

Residents and businesses in the Centurion CBD will be without electricity for eight hours on Tuesday, September 16, as metro technicians carry out planned maintenance and upgrade work.

According to metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo, the interruption is necessary to facilitate critical infrastructure improvements at the Kentron Substation in Region 4.

“The City of Tshwane’s energy and electricity business unit will switch off a portion of the 11kV Kentron Substation from 08:00 until 16:00,” he confirmed.

During this period, the city’s primary network planning and design unit will transfer electricity load from the old Kentron Substation to the newly constructed Kentron building and join feeder cables.

Mashigo emphasised that only the Centurion CBD will be affected by the outage, assuring residents in surrounding areas that they will not experience disruptions.

He also cautioned residents and businesses to exercise safety during the maintenance.

“We urge residents to always treat all network points as live, including during the electricity supply interruption period,” said Mashigo.

He apologised for the inconvenience the outage may cause.

Residents and business owners with enquiries about the interruption can contact the metro on 012 358 9999 and select option 3.
