Be prepared: Eight-hour water maintenance this Saturday in CBD, West
The metro is urging residents to store sufficient water as the water department will be replacing damaged water meters.
Residents in and around Pretoria Central should prepare for water supply interruptions for eight hours on September 20.
The metro’s Water and Sanitation Department will be replacing damaged water meters, which will result in supply interruptions for eight hours.
The water interruptions will take place from 08:00 to 16:00 and will affect the Pretoria CBD and part of Pretoria West.
Residents are advised to store sufficient water for household use during this period.
This maintenance comes after the metro finds itself under Level 1 water restrictions due to high consumption levels threatening its systems.
Residents are urged to save water. They should not water or irrigate gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00. They should avoid washing vehicles with a hosepipe. They should not fill swimming pools from the municipal water supply. Manually topping up pools is allowed, but only if the swimming pool is fitted with a cover that prevents evaporation.
Residents should start applying these water-saving practices to their daily lives: Use grey water to water gardens and flush toilets. Install a low-flow shower head and tap aerators where possible. Use a dual-flush cistern on toilets.
