WATCH: Driver assaults Lynnwood security officer, before threatening him with a gun

CCTV footage shows a violent confrontation in Lynnwood where a driver assaulted and threatened a security guard with a firearm before forcing him to open a gate. Police are investigating.

Police in Brooklyn are searching for the man who assaulted and held a security guard at gunpoint in Lynnwood on October 2.

The violent incident, which was captured on CCTV, took place at a boom gate on the corner of Sussex Avenue and Chappies Street.

In the footage, a white Ford Fiesta stops at the gate, and a security guard in full uniform approaches to assist.

After a brief conversation, the guard walks away without opening the gate. Moments later, the driver gets out of the car and confronts the guard.

The video shows the man shouting before suddenly attacking the guard from behind, strangling him, and forcing him to the ground as he walked away.

A second man, exiting the passenger side of the vehicle, can be seen trying to intervene and separating the two.

Despite the intervention, the driver continues to strangle the guard, then pulls out a firearm and threatens the guard.

The passenger again manages to calm him down, but the driver then angrily kicks the main gate before returning to attack the guard a second time.

After the second intervention by the passenger, the driver gets in his car. The passenger and the guard are seen conversing. The guard, visibly shaken, eventually opens the gate, allowing the two men to drive off.

The security guard reported the incident to the Brooklyn Police Station, opening a case of assault and pointing of a firearm.

The police confirmed that a case was registered at the police station on October 3.

According to police, the guard said the driver initially claimed he was heading to a street within the gated neighbourhood, but failed to provide a specific address.

When the guard refused to open the gate without proper information, especially at the late hour of 23:35, the driver became aggressive, shouting and threatening him.

Fearing for his life after the firearm was turned on him, the guard said he opened the gate.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Mavela Masondo confirmed that a case of pointing a firearm has been opened at Brooklyn SAPS.

He said the police are searching for the man who threatened the security guard.

“No arrests have been made at this stage, but investigations are ongoing,” Masondo said.
